Masterworks a la Carte: "The Magnificence of Bach"

"The Magnificence of Bach" has been rescheduled for February 10th, 2008 at 3:00 PM at Deerhurst Presbyterian Church, 257 Deerhurst Park Blvd., at Colvin Blvd. in Kenmore, NY. The choir at Deerhurst Presbyterian Church is co-sponsoring the event with the Cheektowaga Community Chorus. "Masterworks a la Carte" creates an opportunity for musicians to come together and experience the joy of performing masterworks in a short time.

The program will be the Bach Magnificat and Cantata 140, Sleepers Wake. The choral portion of the cantata is quite short. The music of the Magnificat is more extensive but both together total only one hour.  A MIDI file website has the vocal parts to assist the learning of the parts. It as not quite as delicious as the Single Parts commercial recording, but quite serviceable.  Rehearsals begin Saturday, January 19th at 9:30 am at Deerhurst Presbyterian Church. Each singer will be responsible to obtain $25 to meet the expenses (mainly the orchestra and vocal soloists). This can be done by the singer paying, by getting a patron, or by enlisting audience. Soloists will be Jennifer Mernitz, Jill Masters, Barbara Cooper, Dan Windnagle and Daniel Victoor.

Keenan-Takagi, who will conduct, teaches at Canisius College, is the former Music Director of the Cheektowaga Community Chorus, and is founder and former Director of Freudig Singers of WNY. Lori Abbott is organist and Choir Director at Deerhurst Presbyterian Church and a noted pianist and piano teacher.
